Mailserver down due to power supply failure

On the morning of 9/8/2016, both power supplies on one of our primary mailservers gave out. We normally have spares on hand, but in this case we did not, so we've expedited an overnight order to get replacements and the server should be back online by noon 9/9/2016. We apologize for this really big gaffe on our part and appreciate your patience while we get this fixed. Email is being queued on a different server so no inbound email should be lost.

GBIS will be doing firmware upgrades throughout our Reno/Sparks radio network tomorrow morning. We will begin at 12:15 am on 1/30/2015 and should be completely done by 4:00 am. Individual radios will only be down for a few minutes within the window.

1/21/2015 - Wireless Repair In Lovelock Update

Another Update! We have the tower done and are ready to switch out equipment. Wireless service will be down for about an hour or two starting at 12:30pm. We'll be moving the Radios to the new higher point and then begin pointing other radios in the system to the new tower.

1/15/2015 - Wireless Repair In Lovelock Update

Just a quick update on our wireless outage in Lovelock. We have resolved issues with nearby property owners and have commenced work on our "new" tower. We are currently digging holes for the anchors and will be pouring concrete in the next day or so. Once the concrete has set we will be able to raise the height of the new tower. We anticipate completion around Tuesday January 20th and have service restored to all customers. We appreciate all customers who have stuck with us through this and promise to make it worth the wait.

1/2/2015 - Wireless Outage Lovelock, NV

Update 11:30 AM. Service has been restored to parts of our Lovelock Wireless network. There are still portions we have not been able to restore. We continue to work on the issue with both remote and local techs. 8:11 AM: GBIS has been informed by AT&T that there is a problem with the backhaul circuit to our wireless network in Lovelock, NV. We are looking into the problem along with AT&T and hope to have the issue resolved quickly. As of now all wireless service in Lovelock is down. Well update you as soon as we know more.

8:11 AM: GBIS has been informed by AT&T that there is a problem with the backhaul circuit to our wireless network in Lovelock, NV. We are looking into the problem along with AT&T and hope to have the issue resolved quickly. As of now all wireless service in Lovelock is down. Well update you as soon as we know more.

Reno Wireless Work - 12/15/2014

We'll be making a small adjustment to our wireless network in Reno tonight beginning at 10:00 PM. We expect this will have no effect on most customers. If customers are affected the total disruption should be less than 5 minutes. The total time to make the change should be less than 1 half hour.

Data Base Repairs - 10/30/2014

We have to repair some of our databases this evening. For the most part this should affect internal tools we use in customer service. Customers may have problems getting to our Spam Filter while the repair is happening and there is a small possibility our Webmail service will be affected. We hope to have this completed by late this evening.

Lovelock Wireless - 10/14/2014

AT&T will be doing maintenance on the router providing back haul service for the GBIS wireless network in Lovelock between 12:01am and 6:00am on Tue Oct 14th. We will be installing core updates on all of our VoIP PBX servers Friday 10/3/2014 between 7:00pm and 11:59pm. We do not expect that any customer services will be affected during this time frame.

Lovelock Wireless - 9/14/2014

8:00 am - Great news! Wireless Internet service has been restored to most of our customers in Lovelock. We had to relocate and add several more access points, and some customers will still be off-line. Before calling for support, unplug the radio/antenna and leave it off for at least one minute. Plug it back in, wait at least five minutes and test the Internet. If still not working, give us a call.

Data Base Server Changes - 7-29-2014

We will be installing our new Data Base Server beginning 7/29/2014 at 10:00 pm. We've replaced the motherboard and taken the opportunity while it was offline to upgrade and modify some out of date records and systems. While we are installing it there will be some short interruption of some of our services, We are doing our best to keep these to a minimum.

We have one on the way. In the mean time we managed to route all of our systems and customer tools around the problem. We apologize that this took so long yesterday especially effecting email for most of the day. Unfortunately some time during the night our inbound mail servers went down again and are being looked into. We should have them back up soon.

We will be replacing one of The Access Point Radios in our network tonight beginning at 10:00pm. The radio covers our subscribers East and north of the Grand Sierra Resort. These customers will be down between 30 minutes and an hour. We apologize for the short notice. We identified an issue with the radio causing intermittent slowdowns this morning.

On Monday June 16th we will be replacing cable equipment in Lovelock, NV. Some channels may experience issues and possibly brief outages. Work is scheduled to start around 8:30 am and last possibly until 5pm.

Web3 Restored

The web server is now back up and running smoothly. Something caused it to lock up and our tech had trouble getting into it to reboot. Once we were able to it all came back up and seems to be running well.

Network Maintenence 4/4/2014

GBIS will be moving and upgrading our Network Core in downtown Reno on Friday April 4th. Work will begin at 10:00 PM PST and be completed by 2:00 AM PST on Saturday morning. There will be an outage of all GBIS services during this work. We expect the actual down time to be between 60 and 90 minutes. we will do all we can to minimize the outage. 3-18-2014 Short Outage

The GBIS Data Center suffered a Partial Outage late Tuesday afternoon due to a faulty breaker in our battery plant. The problem occurred between 4:30 and 4:45 PM PST. Most affected services were restored by 5:20 PM. A few systems were not completely back online until just after 6:00 PM. We apologize to anyone affected by this issue.

We just got word from our major upstream Provider that they will be doing maintenance tonight on a router in Downtown Reno. They have assured us that this is an emergency at is being done to stop a worse outage in the near future. Below is an edited version of the notice sent by Integra. They are opening a window of 11:pm till 2:00am, but hope any down time will be brief within that window. All local GBIS service will continue to work, but access to the Internet beyond our own servers will be limited during those times of outage. GBIS Reno Wireless Upgrade

GBIS will be optimizing our Reno/Sparks based wireless network to take full advantage of the upgraded core network. This change will require we redirect all traffic for Wireless customers to use the shortest paths from the customer site to the Internet. We will be making this change beginning at 11:59 pm Wednesday the 22nd of January. Customer downtime due to this change is expected to be between 20 and 45 minutes. Once this is completed we will see improved speeds and lower network latency on the network. GBIS Server Re-locations 1/13/2014

We will be moving servers during the late evening and early morning after 7:00 pm Monday 1/13/2014. During the move several GBIS services will be un-available. These include Wireless Internet in Reno and Sparks, Colocation Email, Webhosting and Telephone Services. We expect the outage to last between 1 and 2 hours and will do everything to minimize the downtime. Various services will be down throughout the period between 7:00 pm and 3:00 am.

We will be moving one of our core routers Sunday January 12th. During the move several GBIS services will be un-available. These include Wireless Internet in Reno and Sparks, Colocation Email, Webhosting and Telephone Services. Backup System Upgrade

We'll be upgrading and testing our redundant link from our Ridge Street Data Center tonight. This should be completely transparent to all GBIS customers. we will be beginning prep work in the late evening around 10:00 with actual tests of the circuit starting around midnight. Testing will continue for approximately 2 hours after that.

System Upgrade: 9/14/2013 11:55 PM

Beginning Saturday 9/14/2013 at 11:55pm we will be installing and testing an additional Internet path for all of our services in and out of Reno and Sparks. We plan on tests of this circuit to run from that time until 4:00am Sunday morning. This should be completely invisible to our customers. If any outage occur they will be no longer than a few minutes in duration. This circuit will add to our redundancy going forward.

DSL circuit maintenance: 6/18/2013

We will be performing some maintenance on our DSL system at midnight. This will cause an outage to all of our DSL based products for about 5 to 10 minutes. This maintenance will also affect our wireless internet service in Lovelock.

Core Router Issued Resolved

We were able to repair the core router that caused outages for some services yesterday morning and early afternoon. The problem occurred at about 9:43am and was completely resolved at 2:15pm. Some services were up earlier as repairs progressed. Service effected were all in the Reno/Sparks area. They included Wireless, Phones and some Colocation.

Some wireless and VOIP services offline

We are currently experiencing a problem with one of our core routers that is affecting some wireless service in Reno and VOIP services. We are currently working to restore these services at this time but we do not have an ETA.

Email processing has been working normally for over 24 hours. We continue to monitor the system for any spikes in in-coming load such as the one that led to Thursday's slow delivery issue.

In the mean time there may be some slight delays in outgoing and incoming mail being delivered. Once the upgrade is complete overall performance of the mail system should be greatly improved. Internal systems outage

We are currently experiencing an outage with our internal systems. This is leaving us unable to access our company email and customer account tools. Customer services are working with the exception of the My Account section of our website. Colocation Power Notice!

We have been advised by NV Energy that they will be shutting power down to our building at 241 Ridge Street Reno, NV from midnight Thursday April 4th until 6:00am Friday April 5th. This is due to upgrade work being done in this area. GBIS will be switching our Colocation Center here over to generator power in the late evening of April 4th ahead of the planned outage. If you have any concerns or need assistance preparing for the power outage please call our Network Operations staff at 775-236-5822.

Email Issues Repaired

We've been suffering some problems that have effected our customers email service. During the last few weeks we've had several customer accounts exploited and used to send spam. This has resulted in our servers being identified by spam blocking services and blocked causing some legitimate mail to not be delivered. Another result was a large amount of blocked spam be returned to us slowing the performance and our servers ability to deliver mail. We've been working very hard to solve these issues and as of early this last weekend it appears both the exploited accounts and the email blocking has been remedied. We apologize to all customers the were effected during this time. We have placed additional automated checks in place to more closely monitor for these problems beginning to reoccur. It is our hope that with these monitors we will be able to quickly identify exploits and stop the problem before it builds to level it reached this time.

Service Repaired - Wireless

The temporary Wireless issue for customers using the Silver Legacy AP's has been resolved. A battery backup unit at the top of the Legacy failed. Power was restored approximately 1 hour after it went down.

Power System Failure

2/5/2013 - GBIS suffered a failure in our main power distribution unit for our Ridge St Data Center this morning. We were able to bypass the unit within about 20 minutes of the outage and have restored power to both our systems and to customer equipment. We are currently working to bring all our systems back on line. If you are still seeing outages at this time please call our customer support center at 775-348-7299 Option 3. DSL Maintenance

At midnight tonight, (1-24-2013), we will perform maintenance on our DSL network. All DSL and DSL based connections will go offline line for about 5 to 10 minutes. Web hosting, email, and co-location should not be affected by this maintenance window.

Internet Issue 1.2.2013

Update: The issue this morning is being caused by Integra Telecom routers in Reno and Sparks bouncing up and down. They are working on the problem. GBIS is installing our backup Internet link at the same time. This was planned for tomorrow already, but we managed to get it moved up to today. That link should be in place by mid afternoon.

Update: Possible Network Issue

This is the latest update on the routing issue this morning: The good news is we believe it is now fixed, but may take a few hours to propagate to all providers. Below is the latest report from our Network Operations Group. "According to Integra, our subnets were not listed in this RAD B database. All the Tier 1 providers use this database and they think that perhaps someone changed something in the way they connect back to Integra that would cause things to stop working. The database has now been updated but it may take a few hours for everything to propagate out to the rest of the net. " At this point is is not clear how this occurred, but we are continuing to investigate.

Network Testing Normal

At approximately 11:00pm this evening Integra's router finished rebooting after repairs. Initial testing shows that our path in and out of Reno is back to normal. Please test your services and let us know if anything is still not working correctly. Thank you all for your patients during the last two days. We will continue testing n monitoring into tomorrow.

Update 12.4.12 3:20pm

We have been working all day with Integra to find a work around to their existing router issue. This would be a temporary fix to allow normal or nearly normal traffic until the router can be rebuild. They were suppose to have parts delivered by Cisco last night that would have allowed them to rebuild and restart the Router here in Reno. Cisco failed to get them here. The last up date I had on a complete rebuild/restart was that they would be able to do it for sure some time this evening as the parts were on a flight heading to Reno. That was around noon. Since that time they have been trying rerouting and software fixes, but as of now they have not found one that cured the issue. They have both Integra's engineers and experts from Cisco working on the problem. We have managed to put a work around in place that has allowed most of our Voice customers to get normal call quality. In some cases this has resulted in the loss of some PBX features, but normal calling in and out has been restored. As soon as we are sure Integra's routing is fixed we will reset all the PBX functions. Calls into GBIS do work now, but all calls go directly to our Auto Attendant include numbers that would normally direct dial to Sales and Network Operations or others within the company. Please use Option 3 in the AA to ring our Reno our customer service group. As I have further info I will pass it on to you.

Continuing Internet Problem

Tue 12.4.12 4:30am As of now, 4:00am Tue, it appears the repairs to our effected services will not be able to be done tonight. We have been on the phone with Integra over the last hour and this is what we've been told. The problem is happening on 3 routers, 2 in Portland, OR and one in Reno. Itegra had planned to replace some parts and reload all 3 tonight. Parts for the router in Reno have not yet been received from Cisco. Integra has been promised they will be here during the day Tue and they are now planning to do the repair Tue evening. We are strongly pushing them to make this repair ASAP when the parts arrive and not wait till evening. So far we have not received any word on this request.

Internet Related Problems 12/3/12

There is a problem originating in one of the core routers of our upstream provider. This is effecting many of our services. Customers on GBIS voice are experiencing quality issues on inbound calls, but should now be able to make outbound calls as we have been able to reroute outbound voice traffic via another provider. Customers with services in our data center including colocation, email and webhosting may have trouble reaching those services especially if their Internet Connectivity is through AT&T. Other providers may be effected as well. The best current ETA on repairing this is late this evening. We are continuing to monitor the situation and are pushing for a quicker resolution. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Dialup issues resolved 2010-09-14

There was a major Time Warner fiber cut which caused various problems for some dialup and voice users on Tuesday, Sept. 14. Service was restored at approximately 11:02 PST Tuesday evening.

NV Energy Power outage Near GSR May affect some Wireless Customers

There is currently a major power outage near the Glendale substation affecting the Grand Sierra, the Airport, and other things in the area. Some wireless customers are connected to GBIS equipment at the GSR. We have about an hour of battery backup left, but if the problem is not resolved, wireless out of the GSR may go down at around 12:15pm this afternoon.

NV Energy power transformer work July 22

Update! NV Energy will be replacing a transformer in downtown Reno starting at 7pm on July 22, and ending by 7am the next day. This work will interrupt power in a building that houses some of our core network equipment. We do not anticipate any outage in our service, as we have sufficient backup power. However, some service providers that we use are located in the same building, and we have no knowledge of their backup power facilities. We will be monitoring the situation throughout the work period.

Delayed Email: Update

Email which had been delayed or queued over the last 24 hours due to server load has now mostly been delivered. We have made some configuration changes to our email system to both reduce the load and help prevent messages from being delayed in this manner, regardless of server load average, in the future. Additionally, this should help with overall slowness while we configure the additional server to add to the mailstore array.

We are currently experiencing much higher than normal load on our email systems. This is causing delays in delivery, and slower times in connecting to download mail. Our network administrators are working on the problem, and hope to have this resolved soon. In the meantime, no email is being lost -- it is merely slow. Verizon Outage Fixed

The Verizon of Nevada service area has been reconnected to the public switch network and all VoIP services related to that incident should have recovered. Additionally the switch problem, affecting vNETs and some TDM circuit customers out of Reno Main and Carson City, has subsided. All systems should be functioning normally at this time.

Widespread Verizon Outage

It appears that Verizon of Nevada is having a major call switching outage. This is affecting some DSL and dialup customers with telephone service from Verizon. This affects areas south of Carson, Zephyr Cove, Minden/Gardnerville, and others. At this time, Verizon is not giving an estimated time of repair.

Web1 webserver down for emergency maintenance

We have had to take our server web1 offline for emergency maintenance. Systems admins are actively working on the problem, and the server will be back up as soon as possible.

Upcoming UPS maintenance

Hawthorne DSL Outage

Email problem

We are currently experiencing a problem with GBIS email services. Customers will experience slow message delivery or the inability to connect to their mailbox. We are currently working on this problem and hope to have full service restored soon. Inbound email will continue to queue on our edges servers until all mail services are restored.

Global dial-up problem

Northern Nevada Dial-up Access problem Resolved

Our trunk provider has resolved the dial-up problem with the Northern Nevada network. The problem was caused by a trunk problem in California which servers Northern California, Nevada and Washington.

Wireless service from Silver Legacy Restored

The Internet Back-haul that serves wireless services off the Silver Legacy failed. It has been replaced with a new unit that also provides increased performance and throughput to the entire wireless network.

Wireless access down for customers served from the Grand Sierra Resort

Some of our wireless equipment is down at this time. Customers who have wireless services based from the Grand Sierra Resort will be unable to access the internet at this time. We are working to get service restored as soon as possible.

Extra backup power added

Today, we have added additional backup power protection to all GBIS and WPTI infrastructure to prevent continued outages as the network facility where we are located continues to experience power disruptions. These efforts should provide enough protection to keep services up and running while we schedule a more structured move of core equipment to a new data center.

Continued power system troubles

The facility where our primary network core is housed continues to experience power system problems. We are continuing to work around the clock to bring stability to the system and move critical network infrastructure to a backup location to avoid continued power failures. Network Outage Report

At approximately 1:45 pm there was a failure of a power inverter for the battery plant at the building housing the GBIS Network Core. This caused major power fluctuations for 30 to 45 minutes until it was bypassed and normal power was restored. As of now nearly all services have been 100% restored. GBIS dial-up issues

We are currently getting calls from customers using the GBIS dial-up network getting network and timeout problems and are unable to connect. Our dial line provider is aware of the problem and is currently taking steps to resolve the issue, however we have no ETA at this time. Dial-up users should continue to try to connect as the issue is expected to be resolved soon.

Emergency DSL maintenance tonight

We will be performing emergency maintenance on our Reno DSL router at 5am Tuesday the 18th. This maintenance will cause a complete DSL outage, lasting approximately five to ten minutes. No services other than DSL will be affected.

Webmail Maintenance Tonight at 8pm

Some emergency maintenance will be performed on our webmail system this evening around 8pm. Webmail will become unavailable for no longer than an hour. POP and IMAP email services will not be affected during this maintenance period.

DSLAM outage in Gardnerville

We are currently experiencing trouble with a DSLAM located at the Gardnerville Central Office. This is causing network outages for some Douglas County DSL and vNET/T1 customers. We have no ETA at this time, however techs are currently on site troubleshooting.

During this maintenance window, there will be at least two brief, complete losses of connectivity to the Internet. Each outage is expected to be about two minutes in length. DSL ATM upgrade May 5th 2am - Complete

Tuesday, May 5th at 2am, GBIS completed a circuit upgrade on our primary DSL OC3 circuit. This upgrade did cause a scheduled outage of our primary Northern Nevada DSL network in the ATT territory from 2am until 2:40am. Any DSL customers still having trouble connecting after this upgrade may need to powercycle their DSL modem and routers.

Core Outage Update - All services online

Starting just after midnight this morning, the GBIS and WPTI network core in Downtown Reno had a grid power drop for upgrades and service by NV Energy.

We were assured by our providers that the emergency backup generator and battery plant would keep all systems up, all emergency power systems were in top service and the fuel tanks were topped of in anticipation of this event.

When the grid power dropped, the battery plant that holds all equipment online powered the system until the generator started, however the generator did not start and the batteries quickly drained.

Electrical and plant engineers were on site and at about 3:20am it was discovered that the emergency generator startup battery apparently had exploded. It took another hour to get that issue resolved and emergency backup power by the building generator came online just after 4am. At that time, we brought all GBIS systems back online and had full service restored before 5am.

This outage, being at our network core took out our backbone internet links, voice services, and all routing that happens at that facility.

GBIS is continuing to diversify the core network into multiple locations so that any one facility will not cause a total outage.

Plant engineers report that they have isolated the possible problem on the emergency backup generator and are trying to route around it now. Still not ETA and still no line power from the main grid. Still no full ETA as to when full power will be restored.

There are electrical engineers and operation staff on site at the downtown Reno core currently trying to isolate the problems with the emergency power systems. We hope to see some results soon and will start bringing systems back online the second line power or emergency generator power is online.

Equipment Update May Impact Routing Services

Emergency Voice Outage

Our long distance voice provider has scheduled an emergency outage between 11pm and 3am. The outage should last no more then 15 minutes. During that time, inbound calls to most ported numbers, and outbound calls to numbers outside of our local Northern Nevada local network will not complete.

California DSL Emergency Maintenance

The backhaul provider of the circuit that provides DSL service to the Chico, CA area must perform card maintenance that will disrupt service to that area. The expected downtime is between 1 and 15 minutes as they replace the card, and is scheduled to occur tomorrow, Friday, Jan 30, between 5AM and 6AM. We apologize for this necessary interruption of service.

It appears that inbound calls to all ported and native numbers, relayed through one of our upstream voice providers, are failing. We are looking into the cause but have not ETA at this time.

Customer account management/spam filter login

There is currently an issue with customers being able to log into the GBIS spam filter and customer tools interface. We are currently working on this and hope to have the problem resolved shortly.
